Schlotzsky’s advertises itself as the home of The Original round-toasted sandwich and famous Fresh-from-Scratch buns and has been making sandwiches for more than forty years. The first restaurant opened in Austin TX in 1971, and the company now has more than 350 locations worldwide.

Schlotzsky’s operated independently for several decades and grew eventually to more than 700 locations. By the time it was acquired by brand aggregator Focus Brands in 2006, store closures were increasing. Following the acquisition, new management reassessed operations, leading to additional closures. However, the company is back in a growing mode, and is hoping to be touching the 700 mark again within the next three years.

It seems to be well on its way, with agreements announced over the past nine months for 128 locations throughout AZ, CA,FL, MN, NJ, OK, PA, and TX. Most if not all of these new stores will be co-located with two other Focus Brands concepts, Cinnabon and Carvel. It is also targeting Atlanta; Charlotte and Raleigh, NC; Denver; Kansas City, MO; Miami, Tampa, and Orlando, FL; Nashville, TN; and St. Louis.
