Uniq Experience, Lo Prices

Uniqlo is a global clothing retailer. Stores carry innovative, casual clothing for men, women and children. The company made its U.S. debut in 2006, and waited until 2011 to open its second U.S. flagship. Just this fall, Uniqlo opened 10 new stores in major malls in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and California. With the new openings, Uniqlo has a total of 17 stores in the U.S., in addition to the Uniqlo.com online shopping platform. To support their retail expansion, the company created a free Uniqlo USA app.

The brand is known for its simple designs and low prices. The look and feel of the store is very important to the Uniqlo brand. There is a huge emphasis on employee training and they are expected to maintain a certain look, both of themselves and the store itself. Retail store employees often spend 70% of their shift folding clothes.

Uniqlo was founded by the richest man in Japan. It is said to be Japan’s leading specialty retailer, and continues to open large-scale stores in some of the world’s most important cities and locations. The brand started with one store seven years ago. Today the company has a total of more than 1,200 stores in 14 markets worldwide.

In the United States, the company will focus on opening new Uniqlo stores in established shopping malls, seeking to soon have between 20 and 30 stores in and around the brand’s current flagship stores in the cities of New York on the East Coast and San Francisco on the West Coast. Long-term plans call for 200 stores by 2020.
