Personnel Updates:
Walgreens announced John Foley, VP for Eastern Operations, has retired from the company. Walgreens also announced that Linda Filler has been named President Retail Products and Chief Merchandising Officer effective Jan. 1.
Walgreens announced that Greg Wasson, President and CEO, will retire on Dec. 29, 2014. Walgreens Chairman James Skinner will become Walgreens Boots Alliance’s Executive Chairman, and Stefano Pessina will serve as its acting CEO. In addition, William Foote will serve as the lead independent Director of the Walgreens Boots Alliance board of directors.
Mergers and Acquisitions:
McKesson announced it has completed the acquisition of Celesio, allowing McKesson and Celesio to operate as an integrated company.
Rexall has received approval from the Competition Bureau of Canada to purchase two Shoppers Drug Mart stores, one in Sechelt, BC and the other in Devon, AB.
Industry Insight:
Omnicare and McKesson announced the signing of an expanded agreement to include the sourcing and distribution of branded, specialty and generic pharmaceuticals. The new five year agreement extends through December 2019.
Real Estate:
Sephora will open its first Australian store on December 5.
Ulta Beauty is on track to open 100 new stores and remodel another 12 in fiscal 2014.
