Core-Mark Holding Co. Inc announced that Jon Bratta has been named VP of Marketing.
Kroger announced that Mike Ellis, Kroger’s President and COO, has retired.
Martin’s Super Markets named Doug Gaerte Director of Store Operations and Amy Simeri McClellan VP of Sales and Marketing.
Wegmans announced that Anne Meath has become the VP of Organizational Development and Kathleen Fitzgerald has been named VP of Human Resources for the company’s Corporate, Distribution, and Manufacturing Division.

Industry Insight
Food City is buying 29 Bi-Lo stores. With the purchase, Food City will enter the Georgia market.
Kroger launched a new natural and organic e-commerce website: KingSoopers.com/LiveNaturally. The company also announced that it plans to divide its current Texas-based Southwest Division into two separate divisions operating out of Dallas and Houston.
Price Chopper will not sell cigarettes at its new Market 32 supermarkets.
RaceWay is selling 30 of its convenience stores with gasoline.
Financial
A&P filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It has already lined up buyers for 120 of its 296 stores. Its ACME banner will acquire 76 stores and Stop & Shop will be acquiring 25 of these stores.
Gas-Mart USA filed for bankruptcy.
Mergers and Acquisitions
CrossAmerica has agreed to purchase the 41 company-operated One Stop convenience store network from CST Brands.
Delhaize and Ahold have entered into an agreement to merge, creating a base of more than 6,500 stores.
Energy Transfer Partners LP announced that it will sell its convenience-stores business to Sunoco LP, in a transaction valued at $1.94 billion.
Fuel USA LLC has acquired all of the assets of Workman Oil Co., this includes 52 convenience stores primarily under the trade name Apple Market.
Lamb’s Markets, including the Nature’s Choice Market, has been purchased by Bales Marketplace.
Southeastern Grocers will sell 29 BI-LO stores to K-VA-T Food Stores.
Real Estate
7-Eleven Stores of Oklahoma has begun adding new larger stores with a kitchen. The first store of this format opened mid-July and the company is planning on adding as many as 15 stores with a similar format.
Aldi will open locations in Alexandria, VA, and Milwaukee, MN; and is reopening 30 of the 66 former Bottom Dollar stores in Philadelphia area.
Costco will open a location in La Vista, NE.
CST Brands Inc plans to open 5 new Corner Store prototype stores in Texas this year.
Earth Fare Inc. opened a 24,000 sq.-ft. store in Atlanta, GA.
Fresh Thyme Farmers Market will open locations at: 901 E. Big Beaver Road, Troy, MI; 2025 S. Rochester Road Rochester Hills, MI; 15480 Sheldon Road, Northville, MI; and 2 new Indiana stores in Carmel and Westfield.
Fareway Stores will open a location in Johnston, IA.
The Foodtown on Route 33 in Freehold, NJ, has closed.
Foodland will open a 47,395 sq.-ft. flagship store in Honolulu in 2016.
Giant Food Stores will open a location in Odenton, MD.
Grocery Outlet opened a store on Lincoln Way East in Chambersburg, PA.
Hornbacher’s opened a store at 950 40th Ave South, Moorhead, MN.
Loblaw announced that it plans to close 52 unprofitable stores over the next year.

Key Food Stores Co-operative announced that it will debut a new banner, Windsor Farms Market later this month in Brooklyn, NY.

H Mart is opening a 45,436 sq. – ft. store in Raleigh, NC.

Market Street opened a new store at 4706 North Midkiff Road in Midland, TX.
Native Sun plans to open its Jacksonville, FL, location on September 4.
