Amazon has filed a patent application for ‘ground-based mobile maintenance facilities for unmanned aerial vehicles’ in another possible effort to improve package deliveries through drones.

Walmart Stores Inc. has included Dallas-Fort Worth and Nashville as test markets for trials of its Scan & Go app, which allows shoppers to scan items in-store and pay immediately with a Walmart account.

 

Foodservice

Papa John’s is taking steps to advertise more like an ecommerce company, as 60% of company transactions come through digital channels.

Taco Bell Corp. is testing a trial with Lyft that allows customers to add a Taco Bell restaurant stop to their ride.

Subway’s new fresh forward store redesign features new technology upgrades including self-ordering kiosks and charging ports at select locations.

 

Grocery/Convenience

Kroger’s Harris Teeter division is testing a mobile application called Myxxrecipes which connects recipes from a large database to customizable shopping lists.

Food Lion rolled out a new mobile application that allows users to search for recipes and specific ingredients and add them to a shopping list.

Stop & Shop and Giant Food divisions, both owned by Ahold Delhaize, have integrated with Peapod to transfer recipe ingredients from customer shopping lists into online ordering capability with a single click.
