• H Mart will open two new grocery stores this month in Somerville, MA and Urbana, IL. More new store locations are planned for Dublin, CA, Haltom City, TX, and Orlando, FL, later this year.
• Lidl US, LLC will open a new grocery store in New York City, NY, later this month. The company also plans to open a new location in Manhattan this summer, and new stores in Atlanta, GA, and Washington DC, in the future.
• Presidente Supermarkets Inc. will open a new 26,767 sq. ft. grocery store in Miami Gardens, FL, in July.
• Sodexo Inc. reported it plans to open nearly 100 “Food Hive” markets at colleges nationwide by 2026.
• Trader Joe’s Co. plans to open twelve new store locations this year in AL, CA, DC, MD, NY, PA, TN, and WA.
Retail
• Barnes & Noble reported it is planning to open about 60 new stores in the United States this year.
• Camp announced it will open a new 7,500 sq. ft. store in Houston, TX, in February.
• Carter’s Inc. reported that Michael Casey is retiring as Chairman and CEO. Richard Westenberger has been appointed as Interim CEO, in addition to his responsibilities as Senior Exec VP, CFO and COO. William J. Montgoris has been appointed Chairman.
• It’Sugar has opened its 125th U.S. location. The 1,700 sq. ft. store recently opened in Middletown, NY.
• Marvin Home Center recently opened a new distribution center at 205 Baker Hollow Road in Windsor, CT.
• Nordstrom Inc. is going private and will no longer be a publicly held company.
• Real Essentials opened its first store location last month, in Sunrise, FL.
• Snavely Forest Products Inc. has promoted Bill Georgelis to the position of VP Eastern Operations.
• TechStyle Fashion Group recently opened its first Savage X Fenty store in New England in Braintree, MA.
• Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance, Inc. announced its CEO Dave Kimbell is retiring and will be replaced by Kecia Steelman.
Restaurant
• Bloomin’ Brands has promoted Pat Hafner to President of Outback Steakhouse.
• Bojangles will be rolling out ordering kiosks to all locations after a successful trial run.
• Krispy Kreme has made four leadership changes. They have promoted Nicola Steele to COO; Dave Skena to Chief Growth Officer; Raphael Duvivier to President International; and Alison Holder to Chief Product Officer.
• Panera CEO José Alberto has stepped down and Paul Carbone has been named Interim CEO.
• Qdoba has signed a new franchise agreement to open 20 new restaurants in New Hampshire and Rhode Island this year.
• Twin Peaks franchisee, DMD Ventures, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
• Yum Brands has terminated all of their franchise agreements in Turkey. The company said the termination was due to sales that were significantly below the global sales average. Over 1,000 restaurants will be impacted.
