Midwest department store chain Von Maur is growing. Those are two concepts – department store and growth – that we don’t get to report on very often, and this one comes with an asterisks of sorts but we’ll take it. The company announced this month that it will open 19 new Dry Goods stores in 2019, adding on to the 39 it started the year with. And if 2018 is any indication, we can take Von Maur and Dry Goods at their word. Last February, the company announced it would add 12 new stores in the year, and that’s exactly the number of stores that opened.
If you’re not familiar with the chain, Dry Goods, first opened in 2010, is a boutique store that carries a changing assortment of apparel, accessories and gifts targeting young women. In addition to doubling its footprint in two years, 2019 will also mark Dry Goods entry into seven new states – Kansas, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota and Tennessee.
