• The Fresh Market Inc. recently opened two new stores in Massachusetts, in Mansfield and Framingham.
• The Giant Company opened a new 40,000 sq. ft. grocery store in Philadelphia, PA, last week.
• Giant Food LLC promoted Caron Sanders to VP of Human Resources.
• RaceTrac Inc. has opened its first convenience store in the state of Ohio.
Retail
• Aritzia Inc. recently opened a new 33,600 sq. ft. flagship store in New York City, NY. It replaces a nearby location that is closing.
• Arnold Lumber Co. Inc. has named Steve Rendine as VP of Multi-family/Light Commercial.
• J. Jill, Inc. reported that Claire Spofford plans to retire as President and CEO in April 2025.
• Kodiak Building Partners has promoted Cliff Shimer to Exec VP of Business Transformation, and Mark Garboski to Exec VP of the Southeast Region.
• Pet Valu Holdings Ltd. has partnered with Instacart to offer same-day delivery from all its locations across the country.
• Primark USA recently opened its first store in Texas. The 37,000 sq. ft. location is in McAllen, TX. The retailer plans to open at least five more new stores in the state.
• RH announced it plans to open seven new galleries next year in Los Gatos, CA, Palm Desert, CA, Aspen, CO, Detroit, MI, Manhasset, NY, Oklahoma City, OK, and Montreal, QC. The retailer also plans to open two in Europe.
• Sweaty Betty announced the appointment of Helen Harding as Chief Product Officer.
• Walmart Stores Inc. will close a store in Huntsville, AL, this week, due to underperformance.
Restaurant
• KFC has dropped their lawsuit against Church’s Texas Chicken over the use of the term “original recipe.”
• KFC is planning to open a new concept, called Saucy. This new restaurant will feature chicken tenders alongside 11 success and 11 beverages, the number is a reference to the companies famous Original Recipe that includes 11 herbs and spices.
• I Heart Mac and Cheese is being sued by three franchisees who are claiming that the company used false promises and illegal sales tactics to convince them to become franchisees. They also claim that the company did not accurately disclose the risks involved.
• Olive Garden is reporting that their Never-Ending Pasta Bowl promotion helped boost the chain’s same-store sales by 2%.
• Perkins has named Kimberly Bean as Vice President of Marketing.
• Savvy Sliders has purchased the BurgerFi brand.
• Subway has promoted Dave Blankenship to Chief Information Officer. He will succeed Donagh Herlihy who will retire at the end of the year.
