Lewis Drug has been in the pharmacy business for 70 years, and has positioned itself with the ‘corner store’ image.  In addition to pharmacy counters, most stores feature photo processing, grocery, large OTC sections, lawn and garden products, and other household items.

Last year, the company debuted a new prototype store in Sioux Falls, SDthat CEO Mark Griffin called “the new face of Lewis Drug. It incorporates an upscale environment, the beauty boutique, plank flooring in the pharmacy and an entertainment area in the pharmacy for waiting with flat-screen TVs and refreshments.” The store, which has a pharmacy area about one-third larger than a traditional Lewis Drug, also includes a “four seasons department,” which is a 4,000-sq.-ft. environmentally controlled room that can be used for various purposes throughout the year.

In addition, Lewis Drug has expanded its grocery departments in roughly twelve of its larger stores. The enhancement features about 2,000 sq. ft. to 3,000 sq. ft. of dedicated shelf space to grocery items, with a distinct concentration on snack foods, grab-and-go items and frozen foods.
